Sketch Layout: Snowed Under (Life.Paper.Scrapbook)

Here’s another sketch layout! I made this one for Life.Paper.Scrapbook’s January sketch:

LPS January Sketch

Snowed Under

Instead of following the sketch exactly, I tried to do a loose grid design across the center of the page.  I did, however, follow the sketch in my photo placement although the size of my photo is slightly larger than specified.  I also used some scraps from my last layout since they’ll be in different albums.  Yay to not wasting paper!

The picture is of our car under a couple inches of ice and snow.  My fiancé and I were more than surprised to find our car in this state when we came back from our trip to Europe late last year.  We had parked the car in an outdoor lot of a hotel since it was cheaper to park there than at the airport.  Neither of us had ever lived in an area with snow, so we had no idea what to do.  I used an old gift card while my fiancé used keys to chip away slowly at the ice.  We did not have gloves with us and, soon, our hands got too cold work properly.  Good thing my fiancé thought to seek help at the hotel where we were loaned an ice pick (at least, I think that’s what the contraption is called) — much more useful than a gift card and keys!  We were able to clear the ice from the windshields to drive home safely.  If we ever travel during the winter again, we’ll be sure to park in the indoor lot!

For this travel album, I’ve decided to use the Dear Lizzy “Lucky Charm” collection.  You’ll find bits and pieces of the collection on every page for probably the next month at least 🙂  I will also be scrapping all the pages for this album in reverse chronological order (shocker!)….Really, the only reason I’m doing this is because my photos just so happened to be organized this way in the folder….Hope it works out!

Now, your turn!  What’s something crafty you did recently that’s out-of-the-box for you?

Background Paper:  Dear Lizzy “Lucky Charm” Pretty Painterly

Chipboard Stickers:  American Crafts “Remarks”, Amy Tangerine “Cut & Paste”

Wood Veneers:  Two Peas in a Bucket Exclusives, Studio Calico

Date Stamp:  K&Company Smash

Letter Stickers:  Dear Lizzy “Lucky Charm”

Other Patterned Papers:  Scraps from various collections

  1. You have totally rocked this sketch! I love how you have used the embellishments as the grid. Thanks so much for joining in at LPS!

  2. Love how you worked the sketch to suit your style and your journaling on the wood veneer tiles is fab! Interesting that you can work backwards, it almost makes me twitch to think about doing that. 😉

  3. Great interpretation of this sketch! I’m curious about your album : how do you decide on the paper collection you are using? I have a travel album about my trip in London in project and I’m afraid of being bored if I use the same collection troughout…

    • I make sure to include lots of other paper from different collections into the “kit” I make for travel albums. Sometimes, instead of using patterned paper from the collection I’ve chosen, I’ll use just a sticker or other embellishment from that collection. All I try to do is include at least one element from the collection on every page…that way, I have variety and I can stretch the collection throughout the entire album. Hope that helps!

  4. What a great story even though it wasn’t so great to come home to a snow covered car. I love your take on the sketch. Those thickers are my current favorite. 🙂
