One Album = One Collection

I’ve been working on an album dedicated to a road trip I took in October from San Francisco to Texas since the middle of December.  I’m excited to say I made the final layout for this album today.  Isn’t there something so satisfying about finishing a project?  Now I just have to figure out which project I should work on next!

For my travel albums, I always choose one specific collection to work with then add pieces from my stash to bulk up what I have to work with.  By doing this, I feel it gives my albums a more cohesive and coordinated look.  But at the same time, I don’t every page to look the same so I make sure to add papers and embellishments from plenty of other lines to give a little variety.

For this album, I chose to work with the “Wildflower” collection by Carta Bella because of its many nature motifs and woodsy feel.  I absolutely love the vibrant colors in this collection.  And, it’s travel themed!  How perfect is that?  The collection pack comes with 12 sheets of double-sided patterned papers and a 12×12 sticker sheet.  It doesn’t sound like a lot to work with, but I didn’t need to add a lot of the collection to each page for this album to work.  All I aimed for was at least one element from the collection on each page.  Sometimes the element was just a single sticker or part of a branding strip, but I felt that was enough.

At the end of the album, an entire 34 pages later, I only had half of the sticker elements, a single 12×12 sheet, and a handful of scraps remaining.  I’d say that’s a pretty good job of killing a kit!  I’ll put everything that’s left into my stash for future projects.  Here’s my final layout for this album:

Food--Texas Style

The background paper and a couple of stickers are from the “Wildflower” collection while everything else is from my stash.  I was inspired by Shimelle’s latest Sketch to Scrapbook Page where she left a large section of a bold patterned paper untouched to show off its pattern.

This probably isn’t a typical last page for an album, but quite frankly there’s not much room to fit another page into the 3-ring binder AND I’m a little tired of the subject….so there you go.
